There are many advantages to tooth contouring and reshaping. The procedure is a quick, simple way to achieve a great smile. There is also very little pain involved. It can often be done without the need for even local anesthesia. Lastly, it is relatively inexpensive.
As with all procedures there is always the risk of damaging existing tooth structure if too much of the original enamel is removed. Also, if the procedure is performed to correct the effects of grinding, there is nothing to prevent additional grinding from taking place. However, when used in combination with bonding and veneers, very satisfactory results can be achieved.
